USCIS Online Account Number: What It Is and Where to Find It

If you have searched “where can I find USCIS online account number” while completing a form, start with your online profile or Online Account Access Notice. Your OAN is generally a 12-digit identifier tied to your account in the USCIS online filing system. 

It is different from the A-Number assigned to your immigration record and the receipt number assigned to one filing. USCIS may issue an OAN after an online filing or after processing an eligible paper filing electronically.

What Is a USCIS Online Account Number?

An online account number (OAN) is the identifier USCIS uses for a record within its online filing system. It helps connect eligible filings and account activity to the correct online profile. 

The USCIS glossary defines the OAN as a unique identification number issued by the online filing system. The number does not replace your case receipt number or A-Number. Use it only when a form specifically requests an OAN.

Why USCIS Issues It

USCIS uses the OAN to connect an eligible filing to the account that manages it. Depending on the form and case, an online account can allow you to file online, view case information, receive notices, and send secure messages. USCIS explains these functions on its online account benefits page. Use the same account for your eligible filings so USCIS can associate them with the correct profile.

12-Digit Format

An OAN is generally a 12-digit numeric code, such as 123456789012, as shown in the account-number field on Form I-693. It does not begin with letters. By comparison, a USCIS receipt number contains three letters followed by 10 numbers, according to the USCIS receipt number glossary.

Copy all 12 digits exactly as shown in your profile or notice. Do not add the letter “A” or a receipt-number prefix.

Where to Find Your USCIS Online Account Number

Your account profile is the first place to check. You can also review your Online Account Access Notice. Although a receipt notice may confirm that USCIS processed the case electronically, it is not the most reliable source for the OAN.

On Your Account Profile Page

If you filed a form online, USCIS directs you to the profile page for your OAN. Follow these steps:

1. Sign in through the official USCIS online account page.

2. Open My Account, then select your profile.

3. Find the field labelled as your online account number and copy every digit.

The Form G-28 instructions confirm that users can find the OAN by signing in and opening the profile page. Check this page before reviewing older documents.

On the Account Access Notice

USCIS may send an Online Account Access Notice after processing an eligible paper filing through its electronic system. The OAN appears at the top of this notice. Current Form I-907 instructions identify this location.

The notice may also include an online access code. This code lets you add an eligible paper-filed case to your account. It is not your OAN. If the code has expired, request a replacement through the USCIS Online Access Code service.

Keep the notice with your immigration records after you link the case to your account.

On Receipt Notices

Do not assume that every Form I-797C receipt notice shows an OAN. USCIS uses Form I-797C to communicate receipt and other case actions, while the 13-character receipt number identifies the specific filing.

If a notice displays an account number, confirm the label before using it. When no OAN appears, check your profile or Online Account Access Notice instead.

When Forms Ask for It

An OAN request can appear on several USCIS forms, usually alongside the identifying details of an applicant, petitioner, or representative. Examples include Form N-400, Form I-485, Form I-693, Form I-907, and Form G-28.

Many of these forms mark the field “if any.” This wording means you should provide the number if USCIS issued one. It does not direct you to create a replacement number or enter your A-Number.

Check the instructions and edition date for the exact form you plan to file. USCIS lists current changes on its forms updates page.

What to Do If You Cannot Find It

Work through these steps before leaving the field unanswered:

1. Check whether you previously filed online or received an Immigration Online Electronic (IOE) receipt number. Current Form I-864 instructions explain that an OAN is associated with a prior filing that received an IOE receipt number.

2. Sign in to your existing account and check the profile page. Use the USCIS recovery process if you cannot access your authentication method.

3. Review your mail for an online account access notice. Look at the top of the notice for the account identifier.

4. Confirm whether the form says “if any.” Leave an optional field blank if USCIS has never issued you an OAN.

5. Request help through the USCIS online account and technical support page if you have an eligible filing but still cannot access the number.

Do not create a number, shorten another identifier, or enter a receipt number in its place. Confirm the field before you submit the form.
