USCIS Helps Dismantle Human Trafficking Ring in Nebraska

In a significant stride against modern-day slavery, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) played a pivotal role in a recent federal and state operation that successfully dismantled a human trafficking ring operating across various hotels in Nebraska. This collaborative effort highlights the relentless commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat human exploitation and provide critical support to victims.

The multi-day, coordinated initiative, led by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), included the Nebraska State Patrol, Lincoln Police Department, Omaha Police Department, Cass County and Douglas County Sheriff's Offices, Sarpy County Sheriff's Office, DEA, and the U.S. Attorney's Office. This interagency cooperation was key to achieving substantial results.

Arrests, Rescues, and Victim Support

The operation led to the arrest of 23 individuals suspected of involvement in human trafficking. Importantly, at least 10 victims were identified and rescued. For these victims, the immediate focus was on safety, support, and access to recovery pathways.

Beyond Border has often highlighted the critical role of specialized agencies in identifying and protecting victims. In this operation, USCIS officials were on-site to inform eligible foreign national victims about T Nonimmigrant Status (T-visa), which provides temporary legal status to victims of severe trafficking who cooperate with law enforcement. This ensures that victims, particularly undocumented individuals, are protected from deportation while aiding authorities in prosecuting traffickers.
